Survivors covered salvaged doors from 1195 in uplifting messages

The doors were then made into our dining table by an advocate and artist, Dana Wells.

How It Started

  • In 2017, we partnered with Lower Lights Ministries to provide a safe, consistent environment for women who visit. Once a week—every week—we offered them a warm meal, clothing, hygiene items, and a safe place to hangout. If requested, we connected them with our partners, who steward community resources and support womxn exiting “the life.”

  • As valuable as the drop-in space we hosted on Monday nights was, it was not enough.

  • In 2020, with the help of numerous friends and partners, we purchased an old building on Sullivant Avenue. The building had to be demolished and completely rebuilt as the world was facing the Covid 19 pandemic and subsequent supply chain issues.

How It’s Going

  • We opened our doors in May 2022 and as of April 2023 we are open 5 days a week, 34 hours total.

  • Peer Support Specialists run the day to day operations and use their lived experience to truly connect and uplift our guests.

  • We have served over 500 unique women with thousands of visits!

  • We continue to work towards our goal of a 24/7 drop in center because as one woman said “you can’t schedule our pain.”
