      <image:caption>Dr. Aaron Murnan is a licensed couple and family therapist and researcher with expertise in intervention development for families impacted by opioid use and criminal justice involvement, specifically those impacted by the commercial sex trade. He earned his MS and PhD in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University with specializations in Couple and Family Therapy, and Quantitative Research Methods. Following a post-doctoral fellowship at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital focused on prenatal substance exposure and child development; Dr. Murnan has led several studies as a PI. His current work, supported by NIDA, centers on co-designing and testing family-based interventions to improve substance use treatment outcomes among women in the sex trade, including women in sex trafficking specialty court programs. He is also leading work investigating the health impacts of sex work decriminalization policies in New Zealand. His most recent publications offer replicable guidance on integrating community voices and lived experience into building relevant and well-targeted interventions for unique populations; increasing accessibility of sex trafficking specialty court programming; and exploring strategies to leverage family support to promote women’s success in sex trafficking specialty court programs. Across all his projects, Dr. Murnan is committed to the use of community partnered approaches where he works alongside individuals and families with lived experience to advance health equity for marginalized families through research, capacity building, and community service.</image:caption>
